CAN THE LORD GOD REVEAL WHO YOUR SPOUsE WILL BE?
I believe that nothing is impossible for the Lord God, He is able to do anything for there is nothing impossible for our God.
(Ephesians 3:20) "God can do anything, you know—far more than you could ever imagine or guess or request in your wildest dreams! He does it not by pushing us around but by working within us, his Spirit deeply and gently within us."
Yes the word of God says so, the Lord God can do anything, far more than we could ever imagine or guess or request. The life of our Lord Jesus the Christ shows us that reality through his ministery: He healed any form of sickness, He gave the sight back to the blind and He untied the tongue of the dumb person; He set the demonically possessed one free from his demonic bondage; He raised the dead and much more. Before even the Lord Jesus Christ came on earth, the Lord God already showed us He is the Almighty through all the miracles Israel witnessed.
So yes the Lord can do anything! Even for what concerns the spouse someone is to have, the Lord can reveal it if He wills so. Many people have asked that question, to know whether or not it is possible that the Lord reveals to us exactly who we will marry (meaning the face and the name of that person), years before it happens. I would say it is possible because nothing is impossible to the Lord. We can see through the Bible that the Lord has revealed to Hosea who would be his wife, also before Hosea the Lord showed to Abraham's servant who would be Isaac's wife:
(Genesis 24:14-21) "10-14 The servant took ten of his master’s camels and, loaded with gifts from his master, traveled to Aram Naharaim and the city of Nahor. Outside the city, he made the camels kneel at a well. It was evening, the time when the women came to draw water. He prayed, “O God, God of my master Abraham, make things go smoothly this day; treat my master Abraham well! As I stand here by the spring while the young women of the town come out to get water, let the girl to whom I say, ‘Lower your jug and give me a drink,’ and who answers, ‘Drink, and let me also water your camels’—let her be the woman you have picked out for your servant Isaac. Then I’ll know that you’re working graciously behind the scenes for my master.” 15-17 It so happened that the words were barely out of his mouth when Rebekah, the daughter of Bethuel whose mother was Milcah the wife of Nahor, Abraham’s brother, came out with a water jug on her shoulder. The girl was stunningly beautiful, a pure virgin. She went down to the spring, filled her jug, and came back up. The servant ran to meet her and said, “Please, can I have a sip of water from your jug?” 18-21 She said, “Certainly, drink!” And she held the jug so that he could drink. When he had satisfied his thirst she said, “I’ll get water for your camels, too, until they’ve drunk their fill.” She promptly emptied her jug into the trough and ran back to the well to fill it, and she kept at it until she had watered all the camels."
Abraham's servant asked the Lord for guidance through a prayer and the Lord did answer his prayer. I believe that this story really shows us how things can work in such situations, and it shows as well what elements we need to take into consideration as Christians. We know that the Bible is not just a story book for the believer, but it is a book where we get wisdom and understanding from. It is a guideline for our life and we should always stick to it in all situations of our lives. There are a few things to take into consideration when someone tells you that the Lord has revealed to him/her that you are to be his/her spouse...
THINGS WILL WORK SMOOTHLY WHEN GOD HAS PLANNED IT ALL, WE DO NOT HAVE TO FORCE ANYTHING...
But apart from that there is something that is very important to understand in such situations, which is that I believe, that when the Lord plans anything for us He makes everything work for good, just as it was stated by Abraham to his servant: (Genesis 24:6-8) "Abraham said, “Oh no. Never. By no means are you to take my son back there. God, the God of Heaven, took me from the home of my father and from the country of my birth and spoke to me in solemn promise, ‘I’m giving this land to your descendants.’ This God will send his angel ahead of you to get a wife for my son."
We do not have to force anything when the Lord is at work, the servant made the prayer and said: "O God, God of my master Abraham, make things go smoothly this day;", and the Lord did really make things work smoothly. I really believe that where the Lord is at work nothing is forced, everything happens naturally. This also implies the fact that the concerned spouse will finally react positively to that prophecy, just like Rebekah and her family all accepted what the servant said after they all heard his story:
(Genesis 24:50-51) "Laban and Bethuel answered, “This is totally from God. We have no say in the matter, either yes or no. Rebekah is yours: Take her and go; let her be the wife of your master’s son, as God has made plain.”
So I believe there is no doubt or confusion where the Lord is present, everything works in harmony. Moreover Rebekah herself did not resist at all when she was asked whether or not she wanted to go with Abraham's servant, she firmly agreed and said she was ready: (Genesis 24: 57-58) "They said, “We’ll call the girl; we’ll ask her.” They called Rebekah and asked her, “Do you want to go with this man?” 58 She said, “I’m ready to go.”
Yes she was ready to go, and when she went with the servant, the word of the Lord says that after taking Rebekah as wife Isaac loved her. So one can really see how all things work together for good.
BROTHERS AND SISTERS WHO CLAIM THAT THEY WERE TOLD BY THE LORD IN A DREAM WHO IS THEIR FUTURE SPOUSES....
I believe we Christians should really be careful with such things. I do not say that it is not possible, but we need to be really careful with brothers and sisters who come and say: " The Lord has revealed to me in a dream that you are to be my spouse!" Why do I say we need to be careful with such claims? Simply because the word of God warns us about false prophets and false prophecies, and so many are misled by their own feelings and heart's desires.
Beware of false prophets and false prophecies.
Since the time of Moses the Lord God has been warning us about false prophets, who actually could be classified into different categories:
I believe the most deceitful people are actually those who can perform great signs and wonders because they can easily bring a spirit of confusion upon the church and thus cause many to fall. We need to really be careful with that category which is spoken about in Matthew: (Matthew 24:24) "For false christs and false prophets will arise and perform great signs and wonders, so as to lead astray, if possible, even the elect."
I did not put them into order but then we have another category of deceivers that has the skill to often appear as "saints". These are also dangerous, because they actually appear and seem to be what they really are not. They cover themselves with a false veil of holiness...Beware!!! (Matthew 7:15-20) “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves. You will recognize them by their fruits. Are grapes gathered from thorn bushes, or figs from thistles? So, every healthy tree bears good fruit, but the diseased tree bears bad fruit. A healthy tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a diseased tree bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire."
Then we have this category of so called prophets-dreamers, they always claim to receive some messages from the Lord in their dreams, while all they say are lies. But the Lord clearly guides us and tells us what to do whenever we meet someone who claims to have had a dream and who speaks great words in connection with that dream. Many people from this category are present in our churches today, they prophesy exactly the deceit of their own heart; they are deceived by their hearts and feelings and they are not even conscious about that fact... Beware of such people because they can ultimately destroy your life and lead you where you should not go. (Jeremiah 23:25-32) "I have heard what the prophets have said who prophesy lies in my name, saying, ‘ I have dreamed, I have dreamed! ’ How long shall there be lies in the heart of the prophets who prophesy lies, and who prophesy the deceit of their own heart, who think to make my people forget my name by their dreams that they tell one another, even as their fathers forgot my name for Baal? Let the prophet who has a dream tell the dream, but let him who has my word speak my word faithfully. What has straw in common wit h wheat? declares the Lord. Is not my word like fire, declares the Lord, and like a hammer that breaks the rock in pieces?"
Then we have another category of dreamers whose prophetic dreams actually could come true sometimes, but whose true faith is not in the Lord God Almighty. Run also from such people!!! because they actually come to teach rebellion to the children of God. (Deuteronomy 13:1-5) “If a prophet or a dreamer of dreams arises among you and gives you a sign or a wonder, and the sign or wonder that he tells you comes to pass, and if he says, ‘Let us go after other gods,’ which you have not known, ‘and let us serve them,’ you shall not listen to the words of that prophet or that dreamer of dreams. For the Lord your God is testing you, to know whether you love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul. You shall walk after the Lord your God and fear him and keep his commandments and obey his voice, and you shall serve him and hold fast to him. But that prophet or that dreamer of dreams shall be put to death, because he has taught rebellion against the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt and redeemed you out of the house of slavery, to make you leave the way in which the Lord your God commanded you to walk. So you shall purge the evil from your midst."
Finally we have this category that also presumes to speak from the Lord while the Lord has not spoken anything to them and they actually speak in the name of other gods. These speak presumptuously. (Deuteronomy 18:20-22) "But the prophet who presumes to speak a word in my name that I have not commanded him to speak, or who speaks in the name of other gods, that same prophet shall die.’ And if you say in your heart, ‘How may we know the word that the Lord has not spoken?’— when a prophet speaks in the name of the Lord, if the word does not come to pass or come true, that is a word that the Lord has not spoken; the prophet has spoken it presumptuously. You need not be afraid of him."
So the Lord shows us what categories of deceivers we have around us, we need to be very careful and always test those who say they speak from the Lord.
(1 John 4:1) "Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world."
Remember as well that it is not all who says to be speaking or doing things in the name of our Savior and Lord Jesus Christ, who is a true servant of the Lord.
(Matthew 7:21-23) “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness."
If the Lord has planned anything for you He will make things go smoothly and you will not even have to force anything.
I believe so much in this because of my life's experiences with the Lord, though not in the field of marriage of course but in many other fields. We always know and have a good and positive feeling when the Lord is at work in our lives. We do not have to force or harass someone in order to convince them that the dream we had is really from the Lord. Because I trust so much in the Lord, that I believe with all my heart, that when He plans something for two people, He will make sure that both of them have positive feelings for one another. He will also make sure that things work smoothly like in Rebekah's case.
Never get yourselves involved into a relationship or a marriage just because a human being came to you and said the Lord gave him a dream about you becoming his/her spouse; But you should always trust more in the word of the Lord than in the word of a human being: (Ecclesiastes 5:7) "For when dreams increase and words grow many, there is vanity; but God is the one you must fear." (Ecclesiastes 5:3) "For a dream comes with much business, and a fool's voice with many words"
So whenever someone tells you such things, tell him/her that till the Lord God shows you the same he can just forget about you. I believe the Lord will show you the same if He knows that it is necessary, or if the Lord does not even show it to you may be He can reveal it to different trustworthy Christians who you know very well or even to your relatives, but who are not aware of that presumed prophecy. These will serve you for witnesses and testimonies, because it is very odd when only one person comes out with such prophecy. But if the Lord does not show you anything at all, then please just live that person alone. Do not even lose your time arguing with such people.
Some so called Prophet-dreamers would even harass you with their so called "marriage prophecy"
If moreover the so called "prophet-dreamer" harasses you with such things you should even doubt more, because this shows that he/she is motivated by his own feelings and not by the Lord, for he does not even let the Lord do His Own Work. Why do I say that? I say that because I believe that if the Lord is the one who really gave him/her that dream, then he should not try by any means to convince you, rather he should let the Lord convince you. Because I firmly believe that he should not be the one to convince you, NO NO NO! The Lord our God, through the Holy Ghost will convince you anyhow if that is part of His plan for your life and if it is necessary. It is not a human being who should convince you about what the Lord has planned for you. Beware of such people!!!!
Remember the story with Rebekah, it is the Lord who convinced her and her relatives concerning what Abraham's servant has spoken. I believe that in that case they could not even refuse anything, because deep in their beings they were convinced that all was coming from the Lord. Abraham servant did not even try to harass them, because he told them only what had happened and asked them whether or not they would like to give their daughter and sister as wife for Isaac. He did not try to convince them with other long stories:
(Genesis 24:49) “Now, tell me what you are going to do. If you plan to respond with a generous yes, tell me. But if not, tell me plainly so I can figure out what to do next.”
He did not try by any means to convince them, he just testified for what happened and was ready to think about something else if they said "No". So I also believe this is how children of the Lord should behave, this is how we should handle such things instead of letting ourselves be amazed with great words and get involved into relationships that we will later on bitterly regret.

What is however good to know concerning relationships and marriage
We should however know that in the Bible Paul gave us the guidelines for relationships and marriage. First of all he did not say that the Lord will reveal our spouse in a dream, No! I do not doubt about what the Lord can do for us, but I just want brothers and sisters to be really careful with what is going on out there. So what was the most important for Paul to teach us, is how to chose our future spouse: (2 Corinthians 6:14) "Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. For what partnership has righteousness with lawlessness? Or what fellowship has light with darkness?"

Judging the prophetic word (source: godspeak.org)
- Be sure to bounce it against scripture... Scripture is the final authority and anything that contradicts scripture must be rejected.
- Look for the inner witness of the Holy Spirit to your spirit. Also look for a witness of His peace with the word (Col 3:15).
- Pray it through. Take the word back to the Lord and discuss it with Him. Ask Him to show you if there are any conditions He wants you to meet, any changes He wants you to make in your life or thinking. Ask Him to show you if any parts of the word are not from Him and to confirm the parts that are from Him.
- Compare the word against other things God has spoken into your life through prior prophecies, personal devotions, pastoral counsel, etc.
- If you have any question/alarm/fear/discomfort about a particular word, run it by your pastor or a leader from your church.
- Do NOT act on any predictive, directive or calling/gifting definition words unless you get confirmation from other sources. If this is a word from God, He will be happy to confirm it to you.
- Do not "read into" the word what you want it to say.
- Independent Witnesses, You can pray the Lord for edification via independent witnesses. (Deut 19:15) "A matter must be established by the testimony of two or three witnesses."
